Feb 25 Fetal pig dissection

1. Finished the questions in the cheek smear investigation lab. We made a model of a mitochondria with balloons and lentils 6. We did our worksheet on photosynthesis and cellular respiration and the chemical reactions involved

Feb 20 Block 3/4

Feb 19 Block 4 and 8

1. We introduced prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells and learned that eukaryotic cells have membrane bound organelles.  Prokaryotic cells do not.  We will explore this more next week 2. Cheek smear investigation

1. Today we did a worksheet on Spontaneous Generation  2. WEEK IN REVIEW

In week 1 we developed our classroom guidelines as well as what Respect, Safety and Success look like in our Science 8 classroom.    We discussed what our jobs are as well and did an activity to identify what we are responsible for.  Here's the summary of that   My job (Teacher)   Your Job (Student)   Our Job (together)   Teach and guide    Share knowledge   Connect and build relationships with students   Listen to everyone   Be prepared   Be on time   Ensure students are safe   Make science fun   Use different teaching styles t hat match student learning    styles   Encourage us   Celebrate our mistakes   Attend class, on time   Be ready to learn every day (get enough sleep)   Know the safety procedures   Treat teacher, Brushy and peers with respect   Actively listen   Follow instructions   Come prepared   Hand in work on time   Come to class with a positive attitude

Today we introduced Genius Hour.  This is a time, each Friday for you to explore something that you are interested in.  We talked about the timeline for this. You were also given the criteria for this project (how you will be graded) and this is pictured below too. Jan 31 - We did the same activities as the block 3/4 class yesterday 1. table top twitter - we discussed what we needed to do as learners to be successful, respected/respectful and safe 2. My Job/Your job - students identified what their responsibilities are, what the teacher's responsibilities are and what our shared responsibilities are. 3. We figured out that "competencies" is a tricky word and that we think it means "being good at" - more to come on this
