april 4 block 7/8

1. Thermal expansion and contraction:
- we talked about pot holes and how they form
- we tried to get the metal ring off of the metal ball by using heat and ice to expand and contract the metals - We still didn't get it off! More to come on this

2. Students got 1/2 block to organize their binders and catch up on any missing work.

3. 2nd half of the block we found evidence of learning in our newly organized binders and used our "i can" statements on stickies to showcase this learning.

Jan 31 blocks 7 and 8

Jan 31 - We did the same activities as the block 3/4 class yesterday 1. table top twitter - we discussed what we needed to do as learners to be successful, respected/respectful and safe 2. My Job/Your job - students identified what their responsibilities are, what the teacher's responsibilities are and what our shared responsibilities are. 3. Scientific literacy video - TEDx talk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-EsmVbIjLU&t=208s 4. read: The search for an effective way to save honeybees (scientific article) Bee article We also had a bit of extra time today so we looked at the BC Ministry of Education website and started to talk about the curricular competencies that are there. We figured out that "competencies" is a tricky word and that we think it means "being good at" - more to come on this
